We purchased 10 weeks ago, followed ALL instructions, and all we have is smelly poop-like mud. False advertisement re: Black gold in 6 weeks - yeah right!! Poorly built door with latch sometimes opens on you when tumbling - nice touch engineers! I suggest a traditional one next time. NOT worth the money and hassle!

Like another reviewer said, its great for generating tea but otherwise it didn't meet my needs. My property doesn't have a lot of deciduous trees- lots of sweet Georgia pine! Also, I leave grass clippings on the lawn (when I cut it with my Clean-Air purchased reel mower!). So the only stuff going in there was kitchen waste. This putrified (great for tea) and smelled really gross (bad for deck enjoyment). Also, I turned it faithfully but one night after a freeze, the mostly-liquid contents froze into a block. When I went out to give 'er a spin the durn thing spun right back, flung open the trap door and barfed a load of guck on me from head to toe! I smelled like a latrine. Possum loved it but wife was turned off. I sold it to a friend with more nitrogen-producing landscape and now just put out our salad rejects for Mr. Possum. My friend loves it and possum looks fat and happy.

My first batch of compost eventually shaped up and was wonderful - black, crumbly, just like it is supposed to be! The most recent commenter and I shared a problem -- it is hard to turn when it is full. The directions say you should only fill it about halfway. It is MUCH easier to turn when only partially filled, and the compost is ready much faster. I keep a wire bin to throw new compost materials in while I compost small batches one at a time in this. It works great!!

I have used this for a year and find it to be good for generating tea but difficult to manage otherwise. When full, for example, it is quite difficult to roll or move. Having said that I have had only one other compost heap and this IS somewhat better than a basic bin. However for $159, one expects something special. The door break very easily with any use, so plan on fixing it with a drill and pieces of wire. For the money, I'd say look for a more traditional unit.
