For the last year, Ari Derfel chose to live with his trash instead of throwing it away. So, it’s not like he pitched a tent at the municipal dump, but it’s still pretty remarkable. Even after composting his food scraps, a year’s worth of waste added up to 96 cubic feet. That’s a lot of trash!
I wonder if Ari used an aluminum can crusher to compact all of his cans. One of those might have been useful for clearing off the sofa when guests came to visit!
Even if you live in an apartment, you can still compost your scraps just like Ari did. There are even composters that fit under your kitchen sink.
As Ari said:
“When we throw something away, what does ‘away’ mean? There’s no such thing as ‘away.”‘
