The cross-cutting solution for your lawn

If you take great pride in your lawn and don’t mind spending a little extra time on it, consider cross-cutting your lawn to make it especially smooth and even-textured. It’s simple enough to achieve: simply mow the lawn in one direction first (say, north to south) and then go over it again at right angles to the original cut (in this case, east to west).

While the process may take more time than usual, the second cut should go more quickly than the first, since the grass is already short. This method works as well for manual push reel mowers and electric mowers as it does for their gas-guzzling counterparts.
