Soak Your Seeds

One way to maximize the germination rate of especially hard seeds, which seedlings often have a hard time forcing their way out of, is to soak them in this homemade solution:

One tablespoon of Fels-Naphtha soap
One tablespoon of Epsom salts
One tablespoon of weak tea
One gallon of very warm (but not hot) water

You can leave the seeds in solution overnight, and plant them early the next morning. You can then water in the seeds, at least partially, with the leftover solution; the tea and Epsom salts will provide nutrients that many plants can use, and the soap won’t hurt them.
