Every gardener knows that different plants have different water needs – but it’s easy to forget that when you’re planning your garden and want to cluster your favorites in a way that’s more attractive than practical. The result? Drought-resistant plants might end up with others than can’t go more than a day without a good drink.
Most casual gardeners assume that their drought-resistant plants can handle the water needs of their thirsty neighbors, and end up drowning out half their plantings. A better option is to segregate your plants by their water needs, and water each group of plants as and when appropriate. That way, your yuccas and aloes can stay as healthy as your lilies and tomatoes.
