In addition to replacing your old appliances with EnergyStar versions as they wear out, there are plenty of ways to conserve energy in the average kitchen.
One easy way is to keep your refrigerator and freezer well stocked; that way, less energy will be required to keep your food cold. So that things stay cold, be sure to let your leftovers cool to room temperature before you put them in the refrigerator; otherwise, your fridge will have to work hard to reduce the sudden temperature spike.
You can also make more use of microwave ovens, toasters, and crock pots, all of which use much less energy than conventional ovens, yet are often just as efficient.
