Raise Fish at Home for Food

Practicing organic gardening is one way to make less of an imprint on the Earth and work toward being carbon neutral, but if you have enough land and ambition, you can extend this commitment to producing organic products besides vegetables — specifically, fish. With organic aquaculture, you can raise your own clean, healthy fish in small ponds — even converted swimming pools, if you can provide sufficient oxygenation and get permission from your municipality. Species such as tilapia grow very fast when properly cared for, and other species, like catfish, require very little maintenance to bring to maturity. If you produce more than you can eat, you can always sell the excess. And remember, fish remains can be processed to make a very effective (if smelly) form of fertilizer.
