It’s hard to underestimate the value of mature trees in an urban environment.
Over a 50-year lifespan, the average tree will clean up pollution to the tune of $60,000; provide $30,000 worth of oxygen for us to breathe; and recycle hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, at a monetary value of $35,000. That’s one tree. Just in terms of pure oxygen production, that’s more than 260 pounds a year — enough to sustain two people. Two trees can keep a family of four breathing.
Now imagine how much an urban park full of trees can help make a city livable, or a quiet line of trees along a city street.
