While it may seem like an odd concept at first glance, one simple way to make your houseplants happier is to add a little gelatin solution to their soil. Why this works becomes obvious if you take a close look at the label: most commercial gelatin is made from the bones, hooves, and skins of cattle and pigs, natural substances that are rich in nitrogen. Nitrogen is necessary for healthy foliage, so don’t hesitate to try the gelatin treatment if your plant’s leaves are yellowish or pale. Check the gelatin box first to make sure of what it’s made of, and if it’s organic, dissolve one envelope in two quarts of water and water your plants with it once every three weeks or so. We recommend unflavored gelatin.
