Organic Pumpkin Pie

These days, most Americans buy pumpkins for one purpose: as decorations. Well, they’re good for more than jack o’ lanterns—and it just so happens that they’re easy to grow in the organic garden. If you’re after sweet, delicious pumpkin pie, your best bet is sugar pumpkins.

These heirloom pumpkins are a little smaller and paler than your traditional Halloween pumpkin (you’ll rarely see one larger than seven inches in diameter), but they’re tastier than their bigger cousins and take up a lot less space in the garden. Here’s a tasty recipe for pumpkin pie that uses sugar pumpkins.
