Beneficial organisms are extremely important to any organic approach to gardening, but you have to do more than dump a few ladybugs in your garden or create some toad houses beside your downspouts. It’s very important to make sure that they have a ready supply of water, too. Don’t assume that they can sip from your bird bath, rain barrels or swimming pool; water from those sources might be too hard to reach, or they may be too chemically-laden to be safe, especially if you’ve taken steps to mosquito-proof those water sources.
Instead, provide your little friends with shallow pans of clean water that they can get to. Remember to replace the water at least a couple of times a week so mosquito larvae can’t take hold.
