Live smaller to save energy and resources

One quick way to decrease your ecological footprint is to decrease the size of your living space, as antithetical to the American dream as that may sound.

Smaller homes require fewer resources to build, disturb a smaller area, and let you enjoy more garden and lawn space on the average-sized home lot. In addition, they’re cheaper to buy and build; they’re inherently energy-efficient; and they’re easier to clean and maintain than a larger home.

If you don’t really need a lot of space, consider a snug cottage instead of a “McMansion” the next time you’re in the market for a home. There’s no reason small can’t be comfortable.
