Instead of reaching for the pesticides when you see a bug you don’t recognize, capture one intact and take it to an expert. You can approach either your local agricultural extension agent or a knowledgeable nursery employee, and they’ll probably be happy to help. You may very well discover that it’s a harmless or even beneficial critter, and that you should do nothing, in which case you’ve saved yourself a lot of time and misguided effort. Even if you’ve nabbed a baddie, the expert can guide you on what kind of tactic to use against it, whether that’s an insecticide or a beneficial bug that eats it.
