You’ll never see a natural expanse of grass that’s made up of only one species. Lawns like those are a purely human invention. If you want to avoid using chemicals, be content with a lawn that contains occasional invading species, and root out the worst of the invaders by hand. If you’re careful, you can zap them with a vinegar spray to kill them without harming the rest of your lawn.

Things like clover actually fix nitrogen in your yard, and dandelions are yummy in salads in your harvest them before they go to seed and spread.
