If you ever have the occasion to install a new lawn, you should be aware that in the beginning, it’s going to need extra watering in order for the roots to get established properly. If you’ve just installed a sod lawn, for example, you should soak it thoroughly every two days for about two and a half weeks. If you’re growing your lawn from seed, water it enough so that the upper 3-4 inches of soil are always moist for a period of about a month. Once the “watering-in” periods are over for each type of lawn, fall back to watering the lawn deeply and infrequently, an inch at a time once a week.
