According to the Phoenix Lander, the soil pH at the north pole of Mars is between 8 and 9, which is some pretty alkaline soil. That doesn’t bode well for Martian colonists who want to grow cotton or corn, but they can grow other crops like asparagus, green beans, and turnips.

How does your yard compare? With a soil pH meter, you can quickly check, then add amendments to get your soil in just the right range for the plants you want to grow.
