Help us make our new building “green”
May 14th, 2007 by Lars

Clean Air Gardening is moving into a new building, and we’re looking for help with choosing how to best spend our $50,000 “make our building green” budget.

Read more about what we’re doing at the Practical Environmentalist blog. You’ll find a photo and the full description of what we’re planning over there.

Leave us a comment here, or on the other blog with your suggestions for our green renovation!

awnings and/or window shades, attic fan a good idea.(mind fire codes). reflective paint on existing roof ?

ventilate awhile at night or early am with cool outside air and shut down fan/or convective vent after sun rise till pm warm-up ? intake air from shaded north side of building, >??, or swamp cooler ??
You might try only oscilating desktop fans as needed and casual dress to start out and find that you are comfortable without added improvements.

task lighting, if needed, with compact flourescents bulbs in articulated lamps.

laptops vs. desktops ? company discount transit passes; showers, lockers for bicycle commuters.

13,000 sq.ft. wow! good luck

[…] As you might have seen in our previous posts, or at the Practical Environmentalist site, Clean Air Gardening is in the process of renovating an existing building right now to make it LEED certified or Energy Star certified or both. […]

#3 NY Times article on buying a green lifestyle on 07.02.07 at 10:13 am

[…] We have gone carbon neutral as a company, we carpool to work and ride our bikes, we chose an electricity provider that uses 100 renewable energy sources, and we are renovating our building to make it as environmentally friendly as possible. We have collected and matched donations to plant more than 17,000 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation and Trees for the Future. […]
