You may be eager to get out there and manicure your new lawn as soon as its roots get established, but be careful that you don’t try too much too soon.
Even if it looks fine, the roots may not be firmly enough established that they can handle a mower — especially a rotary mower, which basically rips grass apart, as opposed to a reel mower, which actually cuts it. Mow too early, and you may find that you’ve pulled your new grass out of the ground, and you’ll have to start over.
It’s better to wait until it looks a little ragged, and possibly a little too high, than to cut it before it’s ready.
