If you’ve got a problem with large rodents like groundhogs in your yard or garden, your best option is to get a dog. While Jack Russell terriers are well regarded for handling groundhogs, any dog will do as long as it’s willing to patrol the grounds and bark at intruders. If you prefer not to get a dog, or can’t, you can still make use of the basic concept. Let a friend’s dog use an old rug, piece of carpeting, or towel as bedding, and then plant it in your garden. The invading rodents will think a dog lives there and will stay away, especially if you replace the bedding on a regular basis.
