Egg Trays in Your Organic Garden

Here’s a good way to cut down on your kitchen waste while giving your garden plants a head start: use cardboard egg trays for seed starting. Simply cut the individual egg cups apart with a large pair of scissors, and fold over the edges to form miniature freestanding pots. Then all you have to do is fill them with potting media, plant your seeds, and water away. Once the seedlings are well established, you can plant them directly in your garden without taking them out of the egg-tray pots; the cardboard is biodegradable, and will enrich your soil as it decays.

do you ever have a problem of root circling? Can the seedlings penatrate the cardboard easily or should I cut the bottoms out?
