We’ve all purchased the occasional gizmo to make our favorite hobby easier, but you should beware of over-mechanizing if you’re just a weekend gardener. The truth is, you don’t need more than a few hand tools, a trimmer, and a mower to keep your yard and garden in shape — and none of those tools need to be powered ones to get the job done. An over-reliance on machines can completely cancel out the beneficial effects of your organic gardening efforts, especially if the machines you’re using suck down gasoline and pump out pollutants, like power motors and mechanical trimmers do.
