These pickle-friendly vegetables come in a wide selection of varieties, they’ll grow in most environments if planted after the last frost date, and they’re so hardy that they can thrive with a minimum of care. One thing that you need to supply in plenty, however, is water; the average cuke is 96% water, so be sure to water your cucumbers every day. And keep an eye out for their nemeses, striped cucumber beetles and squash bugs, which can be controlled by applying organic pesticides containing pyrethrum and potassium bicarbonate.
