We often mention the value of composting everything from kitchen scraps to newspaper, but here’s something most people don’t consider composting: hair, which happens to be a fine source of nitrogen. While we’re not recommending that you head over to the local barber shop with a gunny sack, there’s no reason you can’t compost your pet’s hair (what else are you going to do with it? Make a pillow?). Just make sure you chop up any hair you add to your compost as finely as possible and apply it in thin layers mixed with other materials so it doesn’t mat.
