5 Christmas gift ideas for the lawn and garden

by Libba on November 25, 2008

Let’s face it, not all gardening supplies make the best Christmas gifts. Not everyone puts a 40-lb. bag of organic weed and feed on the top of their list to Santa, and it can be extremely difficult to get wrapping paper to lay just right around a rake.

With that said, here are some gardening supplies that do make excellent Christmas gifts, as well. You can also head straight for our garden gift section that makes finding a Christmas gardening gift easy.

For the garden gifts

Electronic Soil Tester

A tip for shopping gardening gifts, keep it fun! Even hardcore gardeners may find unwrapping a new bag of diatomaceous earth a bit of a let down on Christmas morning, but everyone loves a new gadget to use. Why not give someone an electronic soil tester. This soil tester measures four things: soil pH, soil moisture, light intensity and total combined nitrogen and phosphorus and potash levels (NPK). This is the gift that keeps on giving, and lucky you, it’s only $37.99.

Oxygenating watering can

Another fun gardening gift that’s gadget-y is an oxygenating watering can. This may look like an ordinary watering can, but when you plug it in to the wall, the water starts bubbling in the center. It’s not boiling, though, it’s oxygen being pumped into the water, and this helps create bigger fruits, vegetables and flowers. Although it is ideal for houseplants, it is also great for outside gardens, too! This watering can is available for $79.99.

Trake

There is always that someone on your Christmas list that “has everything.” I’ll bet they don’t have a trake in their collection of garden tools. This is a trowel and a rake in one handy tool. One end allows you to dig, scoop and pour while the other allows you to rake over soil easily.

A trake is a great gift for any gardener. Just make sure not to sneak up on someone using it, because, as Lars says, “It also looks like you’re a ninja when you’re carrying it!” It is available for $16.99

What about gifts for the lawn?

aerating lawn shoes

Simple. Anyone who loves their perfectly manicured lawn needs a pair of lawn aerator shoes to wear as they mow, water or play around on the lawn. They may look a little silly walking across the yard wearing shoes with spikes strapped over their shoes, but the results of a greener lawn will speak for itself. These aerating shoes are available for $16.99.

These shoes do the trick, but for more traditional aerators, check out our lawncare product section.

brill push reel mower

Now, this is a gift to give someone you really like a lot or even love. We like to think that those who receive a push reel mower for Christmas must have been really good this year. (I hope I’m not on the naughty list, that’s for sure!)

The Brill Razorcut 38 push reel mower is the Mercedes of reel mowers. Because it’s not available in big box stores, we like to think it’s a specialty item. It comes with five flame-hardened, welded steel blades that cut your grass so quietly, you can hear your cell phone ring while you mow. The Brill Razorcut 38 is available for $249.99.
