Sometimes, even organic gardeners are a bit too eager to reach for the pesticides at the first sight of a bug or other small animal. Well, not so fast — there’s no reason to go overboard, even with a relatively safe organic pesticide, since you might kill beneficial organisms too if you’re not careful.
Most crops can handle some light snacking from pests, especially if they’re root or fruit crops, and the pest’s target is the leaves. Of course, if something’s boring holes in your potatoes, corn, or apples, you should take heed; but otherwise, a few bites from the leaves aren’t going to hurt much.
