Hummingbirds can be mesmerizing, and it’s simple to attract them — just provide them with the appropriate nectar-producing flowers. They need sugar, and a lot of it, to keep their high-speed motors running. Flowers favored by hummingbirds include bee balm, columbine, cleome, coral bells, delphiniums, trumpetvine and, oddly enough, flowering tobacco. You can also feed them with sugar water, either hand-made or from a mix, but this is not recommended because it’s not as good for them as the organic nectars. If you decide to go this route anyway, stop feeding them toward the end of summer. Most hummingbirds fly south for the winter; but if you keep feeding them, they’re likely to stay, and will end up starving in the cold.

Mimosa trees attract Humming Birds. These trees have pink flowers during the summer months. Fast growing and really beautiful trees.
