If you have a pile of plaster and old brick mortar you’re getting ready to throw away, hold on a minute: you may be able to recycle it into a soil amendment. Most old-fashioned plasters and mortars contain a high percentage of lime, which can be used to help sweeten and lighten acidic soils. You can till small fragments and chunks of both into the soil, and let nature take its course. This is especially effective for the herb garden, since many species of oily, aromatic herbs — especially those originating in the Mediterranean region — prefer rocky, basic, well-drained soils.

If you do not have any old plaster or brick mortar, don’t worry. We have you covered. Just check out our organic fertilizers, where you can find a selection of soil amendments!
